Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva has been a transfer target for several top clubs in Europe in recent times, including two of the Premier League's big boys. Manchester United were linked with a move for the player by Sky Sports in August. Arsenal's interest came later. They were linked by The Mirror to his signature at the beginning of December.
But throughout all the speculation and conjecture surrounding his services it was always clear that Real Madrid were his first choice. Now the Spanish club have got their man.
The club have confirmed the rumours of his arrival today on the official Real Madrid website. They state:
"Real Madrid CF and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube and have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Lucas Silva, which is linked to the club until June 30, 2020. The player will be presented on Monday January 26 at 13:00 h, in the Royal Box Bernabeu, after undergoing the relevant medical examination."
They also welcomed the player to the club on their official Twitter account.
Earlier in the day Cruzeiro president Gil Tavares confirmed, as reported by As, that Silva had agreed a move to Spain after 'pressurising' the Brazilian champions into an earlier sale. The report also claimed that Real Madrid would be paying just €14 million for his services.
So this target has slipped through the net for Manchester United and Arsenal.
However, it could mean the end of Sami Khedira or Asier Illarramendi's Real career might be coming to an end. One door shuts, another one opens - such is the circle of the Transfer Window.
