The United shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in recent weeks following a number of impressive performances this season, as reported by the Daily Star.
His displays this season has seen De Gea replace Madrid shot-stopper Iker Casillas as Spain’s number one, and many have predicted it’s only a matter of time before he becomes Madrid’s main custodian.
According to the Spanish publication Marca, his agent Jorge Mendes has already been having meetings with Madrid president Florentino Perez in order to push through a deal.
And when asked of the likelihood of De Gea making the switch in the near future, the renowned agent refused to rule it out by citing a constant number of changes in his situation.
“I don’t know the future, he has a contract at United and we need to respect that but situations change every five minutes. We all know that in football nothing is impossible,” he told Spanish paper AS.
De Gea joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, helping the club win the Premier League trophy in his second full campaign.
Last season, he won the club’s Fans’ Player of the Year award and the Players’ Player of the Year following a string of excellent displays.
