Arsenal are said to have made an approach for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
The Spanish midfielder has hit the headlines in Madrid after much speculation has been made over his future following the impending arrival of fellow defensive midfielder Lucas Silva.
Notwithstanding the fact that he’s been restricted to the bench for much of this season, with Silva set to join the first-team squad Illarramendi is likely to find regular football even harder to come by.
Italian boss Ancelotti, however, remains undeterred by the speculation as he tells reporters that the club aren’t contemplating Illarramendi departing anytime soon.
"There is nothing new. He is a Madrid player. He hasn't played much, but that doesn't alter confidence in him or the importance he has in the dressing room,” he explained to AS.
“At this moment we are not thinking about Illarra leaving. He is an important player. To have a motivated team we need players that although not playing much are professional and ready to play.”
“He is one of those players."
Illarramendi is described as a pressing defensive midfielder with wonderful passing ability, attributes which would certainly fit in well at the Emirates stadium.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has often been criticised for his inability to spot his side’s major flaws, yet bringing in the former Real Sociedad star would certainly go some way to proving that assumption wrong.
