West Ham United are looking to bolster their defence in the final week of the transfer window with Belgian full-back Luis Pedro Cavanda.

West Ham United are interested in a move for Lazio right-back Luis Pedro Cavanda this month, according to Calciomercato.

Cavanda, 24, has been in and out of the Lazio side this season, making seven starts in 11 Serie A appearances, and the club are reported to be willing to offload him for a fee in the region of €2 million, despite his contract running until 2018.

West Ham were looking at the former Belgium Under-21 international in the summer along with Sunderland and Hull, according to Talk Sport, but the Hammers could now be set to ramp up their interest, amid doubts over whether Carl Jenkinson’s season-long loan can be made permanent.

A versatile defender, Cavanda has also filled in at left-back this season, and Sky Sports named Arsenal as potential suitors in the summer of 2013 following a successful campaign in which he established himself as a regular under former manager Vladimir Petkovic.

His stock has since taken somewhat of a hit in the Italian capital, but a fresh start at Upton Park could be just what’s needed to reignite his still-promising career.
