Report: West Brom 'make offer' to sign ex-Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi

West Brom are reportedly interested in a deal to sign ex-Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion have made an offer to Nigerian international striker Shola Ameobi in a bid to bring him back to England.

Ameobi, 33, is a free agent having left Turkish side Gaziantep in order to return to England, just six months after joining them following his departure from Newcastle United.

Now, Tony Pulis is reportedly interested in offering Ameobi a return to Premier League football as he tries to keep the Baggies in the Premier League.

With just 79 goals in 371 games for Newcastle, Ameobi was far from a regular goalscorer for the Magpies, but would offer a focal point in attack alongside Saido Berahino.

Pulis likes to play a direct brand of football, and the big, strong Ameobi would fit in well having played for Pulis during a loan spell with Stoke City in 2008.

Now, with Brown Ideye reportedly up for sale and Giorgios Samaras heading off to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli according totransfer. the Guardian, Pulis will need a new striker - and Ameobi offers a cost-effective option given that he's available on a free

The Daily Mail believe that talks are underway between Ameobi and West Brom, and whilst Crystal Palace may also be interested with his former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew in charge at Selhurst Park, the Baggies are currently leading the race.
