Raman, 20, has earned his first-team breakthrough at Gent this season after spending the previous campaign on loan at KV Kortrijk, and his performances have seen him hailed as one of the Belgian Pro League’s top prospects.
Recording seven goals and four assists in 24 games this season, a move in the near future has been mooted, and the Baggies appear keen to steal a march on rival interest with an approach this month.
The Belgium Under-21 international himself appears more than confident about his ability to handle English football, having compared himself to Anderlecht starlet and compatriot Dennis Praet, who the likes of the Mirror have linked to Arsenal.
“I can put my feet next to someone like Praet, who I previously played in the national youth” he told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws last month.
“Only he has already played more games at the highest level. In my case, it took a little longer before I could really break through at AA Gent. Maybe I'm more of a late bloomer.”
With Gent sitting fourth in the table at present, and Raman having a contract until 2018, it seems doubtful that the club will let their star prospect go in the current transfer window without a fight, but the Baggies could well force their hand with a sizeable bid.
Comfortable in a central role or out wide, he'd no doubt prove a good addition for the long-term, but perhaps isn't a signing who would help the club avoid a potential relegation battle.
