West Ham United could be a step closer to the signing of Azubuike Egwuekwe.

A report from website AllAfrica suggests West Ham United could be on the verge of doing a deal for Super Eagles defender Azubuike Egwuekwe.

A recent report in the London Evening Standard suggested that the Hammers has already seen an offer turned down for the player, but they now appear to have improved their initial £500,000 offer.

AllAfrica’s report claims the defender has flown to London to discuss a move to Upton Park, with ten days left to run in the current transfer window.

The report also states that a fee would be closer to the £4 million mark, which shows how serious West Ham are about getting their man, considering the size of their reported opening bid.

Sam Allardyce should be praised for thinking outside the box in terms of finding a new player, with Winston Reid showing no sign of extending his current contract beyond this season.

Allardyce could have chosen to stick with the Premier League although it would have been difficult to prise away the best players from clubs all over the division and it will be interesting to see if this move goes through without any complications.
