In the last week, there has been an update regarding a reporter former target of Tottenham Hotspur's in Andre-Pierre Gignac.
Le10Sport have previously linked the France striker with a move to White Hart Lane but pictures in the French and Italian press revealed that the player’s agent had been spotted in Milan, apparently talking to Serie A clubs about his immediate future.
Gignac’s contract is up in the summer and the striker is able to talk to European clubs up until the end of the month. But his agent, Jean-Christophe Cano, while speaking to local paper La Marseillaise, has denied that talks ever took place with Inter Milan.
“There are no current discussions,” said Cano. “We are in a time when we hear a lot. All I can say is that I do not confirm the contacts that were made with us and Inter.”
Gignac and his people may have been looking to gauge current interest; the possibility of getting a deal done now would be better for Gignac, rather than waiting - especially if a club like Tottenham have previously been linked with a move.
Over the first 10 league games of the current season, Gignac scored 10 times, his best ever start to a season, but the second quarter of the campaign hasn’t been as fruitful. In the last 11 games, he has only scored twice and you can see the lack of confidence in his finishing.
The burly Frenchman’s style would be very-well suited to the Premier League, however, and, if Tottenham are looking for a strong, explosive forward to play beside Harry Kane, they could do a lot worse than signing “Le Big-Mac” on a free transfer.
