Pochettino comments on Spurs whizkid Josh Onomah

Mauricio Pochettino says he won't rush Tottenham youngster Josh Onomah.

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted he will not rush young talent Josh Onomah, the told The Evening Standard.

This is despite admitting he has promoted the teenager to train regularly with the first team, and handing him a first team debut in the FA Cup earlier this month.

There are clearly high hopes for the England under-18 international, who has been playing for Spurs' under-21 side.

The head coach said: "We need to be very careful with young talent.

"Onomah is only 17, but in the last two or three months he has been training with the first team every day. He needs time."

Pochettino's words are clearly backed up by his actions.

While Tottenham were playing their important Capital One Cup semi final first leg this week, Onomah was left out.

Instead two days later he was captaining the under-18 team to an FA Youth Cup victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The head coach is getting a good look at him in training each day, and his previous track record suggests he can be trusted to play him when the time is right, and not before.

He did this to great effect at Southampton, blooding several youngsters into the first team when they were ready, and just the fact Onomah is in his thoughts is great news for the youngster, and fans who want to see another one of their own break through.
