Roberts has impressed at youth level so far this season, with his attacking instincts seeing him claim a number of goals and assists, and Beardsley has dealt out some high praise to the 17-year-old.
The Magpies great believes Roberts' dribbling skill means that he can compared to both Ronaldo and Messi, playing-style wise, and he feels he is the brightest prospect in the club's academy at the moment.
“Callum has been the one so far," he said. “He is a year younger than most of them but has been outstanding whenever he has played this season. He is probably the next one in the manager’s thoughts and has been the real pick of the bunch.
“Quite simply, his ability makes him stand out. He loves a dribble and is quite old-fashioned in that respect. You also look at players like Messi and Ronaldo and they are both great dribblers and Callum is off that ilk."
Roberts has already been included in Newcastle's first-team squad this campaign and even made his debut for the senior side against Leicester City earlier this month. He has now, though, been loaned to Gateshead.
The likes of Rolando Aarons, Jak Alnwick, Sammy Ameobi and Paul Dummett have all graduated at Newcastle to play for the first team this campaign and their showings have clearly convinced the club that bringing through their own talent could be a good option.
Newcastle's academy-system has grown stagnant more recently but the next generation of youngsters is tipped to be the best for some time and Beardsley certainly believes Roberts is their shining light.
