The England international has been out since November after ankle surgery.
Arsenal have held a question and answer session with a group of their players on Instagram today and one of the players involved gave an impromptu fitness update.
Jack Wilshere was answering the question; "How is the progress on your recovery from the injury Jack?", to which he responded:
"Thanks for asking about my injury. It's coming along really well thanks. I have started kicking a ball and I am running. So I am just trying to get my fitness levels up and then, hopefully, I'll be back soon."
The Injury prone midfielder has been out of action since picking up another ankle injury in November. He caught a nasty tackle from Manchester United youngster Paddy McNair.
The damage was to his ankle ligaments and proved sufficiently severe that Wilshere had to go under the knife again. At the time Arsenal.com reported that the the surgery and recovery would see him out of action for around three months, however he appears to be ever so slightly ahead of that preliminary schedule.
Wilshere returned to light training with the Arsenal team last week and while there is no suggestion he could start the game against Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup this weekend it would certainly appear as though he is edging closer and closer to a first-team return.
When he does he will have a serious task on his hand getting back into the side, with Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin in excellent form in the heart of Arsenal's midfield.
