West Ham United defender Winston Reid has explained what he tells anyone who asks him about January.

West Ham United defender Winston Reid has been quoted by the West Ham website, explaining what he tells people who ask him about January.

Reid has been linked with a move to Arsenal this month by the Daily Mail, but has suggested that as a player, he and others don’t take too much notice of speculation during the winter window.

“People often ask me whether January is a strange month for footballers because of the transfer window and gossip - to be honest as players we don't really notice it that much,” said Reid.

“It's not like we look out for news about players, and it's mainly the media surrounding football as to why there's always a lot of talk about transfers.”

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has already revealed his belief to the BBC that Reid holds an agreement with a rival club to move to them, with his Hammers deal set to expire at the end of this season.

However, he is a professional and appears to be more determined to focus on his immediate football rather than the speculation surrounding him away from the pitch.

It’s a very important second half of the season for the Hammers with the ultimate aim to get into the Europa League ahead of next year.

That will open up more possibilities for West Ham in terms of the players they can attract and the amount of revenue coming into the cub and Reid will be at the heart of ensuring they qualify for that.

Their chances of a top six finish will be affected if Reid moves on before the close of the current transfer window, but if that happens then West Ham fan can be confident they’ll get top price for the player.
