Tottenham Hotspur fans react on Twitter to new Ryan Mason contract

Tottenham Hotspur fans have had their say on Ryan Mason's new five-and-a-half-year deal via twitter.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed via their official website this morning that midfielder Ryan Mason had agreed a new contract to stay at the club.

Mason has risen in importance for first team boss Mauricio Pochettino, making 18 appearances so far this season and turning himself into one of the side’s most important midfield men.

The new deal runs until 2020, which is a he sign of commitment from the club based on some good form over the last couple of months.

The worry is that the club have tied themselves into a younger player, who is now under huge pressure to justify the commitment shown to him by the club.

He should relish that pressure and rise to the challenge of being a role model for younger players.

Mason is a very good example to all of the younger players battling away at Spurs that if they work hard enough, that will be recognised by the manager and he will give chances to academy products.

His best qualities are the way he protects possession and passes the ball sensibly, which allows Tottenham to maintain pressure over their opposition in big games.

He’s been exposed to a great deal of pressure already this season and has been trusted in big games, which speaks volumes about the way he’s developed over the course of this season and during the last campaign.

Pochettino deserves credit for having the guts to select Mason and stick with him when he could have gone with more experienced and more expensive midfield options ahead of the 23-year-old.

He should now get his head down and be focused on the realistic possibility of winning some silverware with Spurs although the ultimate aim will always be the club getting into the Champions League.

Here’s what Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter made of the news.
