Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford will get the chance to prove himself against the Blues’ main Premier League title rival on Saturday when Middlesbrough go head-to-head with Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round.
The talented 21-year-old, who has scored eight goals in 21 Championship games this season, will have the perfect stage to prove himself to Jose Mourinho on Saturday when he is likely to go head-to-head with City’s Vincent Kompany at the Etihad Stadium.
Talking to Middlesbrough’s official club website, the chance to prove himself against one of the best defences in the country is something Bamford is relishing and believes the Championship high-flyers can get a result.
‘’It’s interesting and I’m looking forward to it,’’ said Bamford. ‘’It’ll be good to test myself against the likes of Kompany and if I can score a goal it shows that I can score against the big boys.
‘’It’s the FA Cup it’s why so many people are interested. You see it so many times when lower league teams come up against Premier League teams. Anything can happen.’’
The North East-based side are currently second in the league, after watching the other three of the Championship's top four lose their last game, so will be keen to keep their run going despite playing against one of the top clubs in the country.
The England under-21 striker will have no choice other than to be on his game if ‘Boro are to get something from the match due to the quality of the opposition. He will need to be at his sharpest to ensure Aitor Karanka’s men have an attacking threat throughout the 90 minutes.
