The Premier League duo could miss out on a deal for Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya.
The Premier League duo had reportedly been chasing the defender and could have made a move during the January transfer window, but now look set to miss out as Ligue 1 side Marseille are close to a deal.
The French club reportedly wanted to sign the defender during the summer transfer window but were unsuccessful in their attempts, but will try to sign him again during January’s transfer window.
Coach Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly asked his club to secure the services of the defender, who has failed to impress new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, into giving him regular first team football since his arrival in the summer.
The player’s agent Juan de Dios Carrasco recently talked to Mundo Deportivo about his client’s desire to leave the Spanish side, despite the fact he has played more first team football in recent weeks.
Montoya, 23, is under contract until 2018 with his release clause set at £18m, although any fee for a transfer is likely to be much lower than that price should the club decide to let him leave.
