The Tottenham Hotspur striker endured a frustrating return to first-team action.

If you missed last night's game and wanted to know what Tottenham striker (and captain for the day) Emmanuel Adebayor got up to, the above image sums it up aptly.

The Togolese forward spent most of his time either committing fouls or on the floor appealing - unsuccessfully - for fouls to be given in his favour.

That's not to totally chastise the Spurs striker, of course. Adebayor needs time to get to grips with first-team action once again and, if Mauricio Pochettino wants to (or is being forced to) persist with the 30-year-old, patience will be required.

And yet there is a degree to which any Tottenham fan can feel entitled to be disappointed. This was Adebayor's big chance and Pochettino showed enough faith in him to make him skipper for the night.

Against League One opposition, however, the striker didn't produce. Granted, this was a resolute, disciplined Sheffield United side. But more will be needed from Adebayor - and last night certainly didn't see the Tottenham man at his best.
