He has instead agreed to join Spanish giants Real Madrid and in his press conference he confirmed why Real was his first choice. In his unveiling press conference this afternoon he has spoken to the world's press about his decision to join Real. In quotes published on the official Real Madrid website he stated:
"It is an honor and a dream come true. The reason I chose to join Real Madrid is that this team has the best conditions for both sporting development, as a player, and externally to develop as a person. It is the best option for me. It seems incredible to be playing for a team like this. "
"My goal is to become the best player possible. It does not matter if I play in the first or second team. It is a great advantage and it was also important to make this decision to have a second team of very good standard and with a coach [Zinedine Zidane] who has been one of the best players in the world. It will be a combination. I will train with the first and second team. If Ancelotti wants to use me with the first team then I will be happy, but it'll be the Castilla."
It seems the presence of a B team has really helped Real Madrid in their pursuit of the player. Of course the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool were also interested in the 16-year-old.
Toward the end of December the Daily Mail reported that Odegaard would be visiting United's training facilities. Liverpool were also keen. In November Odegaard admitted he was a Liverpool fan and in December he was snapped training with the first-team.
But Real Madrid have won the race for the latest footballing wonderkid and hopefully he will live up to his massive early reputation.
