Ipswich fans react on Twitter to Freddie Sears' performance against Brighton

Portman Road - Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town fans took to Twitter on Wednesday night to have their say on Freddie Sears' showing in the 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ipswich Town were denied the chance to go top of the Championship on Wednesday night after falling 3-2 at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Sam Baldock opened the scoring for the Seagulls in the 18th-minute when he cut in and blasted home a powerful effort, before Daryl Murphy equalised four minutes later with his 18th league goal of the season.

Liverpool loanee Joao Teixeira scored a brace inside seven minutes towards the end of the first-half, however, and, despite substitute Freddie Sears’ late strike, it was enough for the home side to hold on for the win.

Nevertheless, there were a few positives for Ipswich to take from the match, most noticeably the contribution of Sears, whose goal was his first for the club since signing from Colchester United last week for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the former West Ham United striker said: “Obviously I’m really pleased to have scored my first Ipswich goal but I’m disappointed that we’ve lost the game.

“It was a bit bittersweet for me but the main thing is helping the team get three points, which unfortunately we’ve not been able to do tonight.

“We’ve got a bit of a break now and hopefully we can put this one behind us and move on.”

Entering the fray in the second-half, Sears looked sharp in his 40-minute outing and, with Ipswich hoping to keep up their promotion push into the final months of the season, his addition could well prove the crucial towards a potential top-flight return.

Fans certainly seemed to be impressed with his performance on Wednesday, with the following being some of the best reactions from Twitter on the night.
