Arsenal have a fairly impressive front-line nowadays. With Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott all at Arsene Wenger's disposal teams must be wary. That is without including Costa Rican international Joel Campbell.
The forward had an excellent World Cup with Costa Rica in Brazil, which followed a great season on loan at Olympiakos.
With that in mind it looked as though he was set to play regularly for Arsenal this season. That has not been the case. Campbell has played just 37 minutes of Premier League football this season and is now being linked with a loan move away from the club.
It emerged earlier this week, as reported by the Daily Mail, that Real Sociedad boss David Moyes was pressing ahead with a loan move for the player. The report also claimed Sociedad would be willing to buy him permanently for £8 million.
However it would appear they are not the only team in La Liga interested in his signature. Marca reported at the start of the month that Villarreal wanted the player as well. With Arsenal in for the Yellow Submarine's central defender Gabriel Paulista, the rumours of a trade have begun.
Now, Sky Sports' Spanish expert has given his insight on the deal via his official Twitter account. He says both clubs want the player but as Arsenal are refusing to bridge the gap to Villarreal's asking price for Gabriel, Campbell could be used as a makeweight:
Joel Campbell wanted by R. Soc. but Villarreal wants him as part of Gabriel deal, which is still not agreed: AFC wont pay his buy out clause— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) January 22, 2015
Campbell previously had a spell on loan in La Liga with Real Betis, scoring twice in 28 La Liga appearances.
