The Ajax coach is one of Europe's most coveted managers.
Ajax manager Frank De Boer is a wanted commodity at the moment. The Dutchman has been linked with the vacant job at Newcastle United in the past week. Just today The Telegraph report that Newcastle United will be making a move to bring in De Boer in the summer after his successful stint as Ajax coach.
But it is not the first time that De Boer has been approached by English clubs, as he confirmed to Sky Sports earlier today. He stated that Liverpool asked him about the job two years ago whilst Tottenham were in touch last summer:
“Two years ago I was very honoured that Liverpool asked me if I was interested in the job.
“There was still was other candidates also. But I just signed a new contract and I said you are too early at this moment.
“Tottenham, last year, I was one of the candidates and in the end they chose Pochettino and all respect to the choice. There were two clubs that I was quite interested in."
In the end Liverpool went with Brendan Rodgers, who almost guided the team to the Premier League title last season. Meanwhile Spurs now have Pochettino, who is on the verge of taking them to a League Cup final and has them pushing for Champions League spaces.
So neither club appears to have lost out too much.
De Boer has an excellent record as a manager. He has led Ajax to four consecutive Eredivisie titles despite losing several star names since taking the role in 2010.
