Daniel Sturridge posts pic with Liverpool strike partner Mario Balotelli

The two strikers have barely got a chance to play alongside eachother this season.

In the summer Liverpool lost their main goal-getter, as Luis Suarez switched Liverpool for Barcelona after a controversial but sensational stay in the Premier League.

They snapped up AC Milan striker, and former Manchester City bad boy, Mario Balotelli in an attempt to replace the player for the new season.

With his arrival and the presence of Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool fans remained optimistic ahead of the season.

The truth, is the two have barely had a chance to play with each other.

Sturridge has missed the majority of the season with a succession of upper leg muscle injuries. In his absence Liverpool have struggled for goals, in particular Balotelli. The Italian is still waiting to hit his first Premier League strike for the club.

Currently the pair are both out of action. Sturridge is stepping up his recovery while Balotelli has been laid off sick all week.

But with a return to first-team football for both players drawing ever closer, Sturridge has posted an Instagram picture and message today which should get Liverpool fans very excited for the upcoming months...

For much of the season Balotelli played as the lone frontman for Liverpool, due to the absence of Sturrudge. In reality he works much better as part of a two and the pace and raw ability of this pair is undoubtedly a frightening proposition for any Premier League defence.

It is a matter of time before the pair join forces, time will tell if it clicks.
