The Daily Star claims Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offer £6 million to sign Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon, but how does he compare to in-form forward Harry Kane?

In terms of league goals he’s only one behind (Slimani stats taken from whoscored.com) although Kane’s efforts have come in the Premier League, which is arguably a higher standard than the Portuguese top division.
Kane is also ahead in terms of discipline this season (one yellow card as opposed to three) and passing accuracy (Slimani at 75.8%), which suggests that the 21-year-old Englishman has greater control in terms of possession and how he handles his temper in tense situations.
Kane also seems to possess more defensive ability, which hints he’s got a better sense of defensive responsibility, which is something Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for in any potential signing. On average this season, Slimani fails to get above 0.3 for tackles and interceptions per game.
Would Slimani be a gamble for Spurs? Definitely, but at £6 million and considering that he’d be behind Kane in the pecking order, it may be worthwhile if the boss feels he needs a stop-gap measure over the second half of the season.
