The Elder Scrolls Online ends sub fees - console date announced

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios' MMO arrives on PS4 and Xbox One in June.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to end charging subscription fees in order to play the game, and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release date has been revealed as 9th June 2015.

It's not really much of a surprise that the developers are dropping the subscription model for the game, as ESO didn't make much of an impact when it was initially released on PC last year. The MMO market is a tough one to break, especially with a subscription fee-based game.

The Elder Scrolls Online is being re-released under the name of the "Tamriel Unlimited" edition, which will launch on 17th March for PC and Mac, and later in June for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Bethesda say:

"Beginning June 9th, you can join your friends on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to play The Elder Scrolls Online – Tamriel Unlimited… with no game subscription fees!

Tamriel Unlimited is arriving on PC/Mac, too – beginning on Tuesday, March 17th. To celebrate the announcement, we’ve released The Confrontation, the final chapter in our thrilling series of cinematic trailers. Watch the stunning conclusion and get ready for Tamriel Unlimited!"

There will be a "Premium Plus" membership option, however, as detailed over on the ESO website. The post reads as follows:

"When The Elder Scrolls® Online: Tamriel Unlimited™ launches, current subscribers won’t need to do a thing to enjoy the many benefits offered by our new premium membership: ESO Plus. Just keep playing and you will automatically become a member, allowing you to take advantage of the great perks that will enhance your in-game experience when Tamriel Unlimitedarrives.

"If you have time remaining on your game subscription at the launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, you’ll automatically be enrolled as an ESO Plus premium member for the remainder of your game subscription period. You’ll get all the benefits of membership during that time, including your full allotment of crowns (the new digital currency used in our Crown Store). If you already have recurring payment set up, you won’t need to do anything if you wish to continue on as an ESO Plus member; it’ll all happen automatically. If you do not wish to keep recurring payments, you may change this option in your account page."

On top of the in the "allotment of crowns" to use in the Crown Store, ESO Plus members also receive access to all the DLC for the duration of membership, a 10% bonus to XP, gold gain, crafting research, and inspiration.
