Report: Derby County want Hamilton defender Jesus Garcia Tena to join Spanish contingent at iPro Stadium

The former Juventus youth product has had a good season in Scotland.

Last week Derby County completed the signing of Spanish defender Raul Albentosa from La Liga club SD Eibar. Not content with one new Spanish centre-back they are now being linked with another.

Tutto Mercato Web have reported an exclusive claiming that Derby County are after defender Jesus Garcia Tena. But rather than playing in the sunny climate of Spain this young Spaniard is currently playing for Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academical.

The 24-year-old started his career as a youth team player with Italian side Juventus before spells at Sabadell, Terrassa and back in Italy with Cueno.

His first steps into Scottish football came when he joined Livingston, who have a history for signing Spanish players, in 2012. He impressed at the club last season, playing 18 times in their promotion campaign. This season he has featured 13 times in the SPL as Hamilton exceed their pre-season expectations.

Derby County have just signed a defender, so the potential signature of another certainly seems a bit odd. There is the added fact that Garcia Tena has recently committed himself to Hamilton. His contract was due to expire in the summer but he signed an extension until 2016 on New Year's Day.

Garcia Tena's former boss Alex Neill recently quit Hamilton for the Championship, with a move to Norwich City. Perhaps Garcia fancies following suit.
