Arsenal have shown a keen interest in Stuttgart prospect Timo Baumgartl, according to Sport Bild.
Baumgartl, 18, started the season with Stuttgart II in the German third-tier, but senior injuries have since seen him earn his first-team breakthrough.
The promising centre-back has started the past seven Bundesliga games and, having earned impressive reviews from fans and the media alike, interest across Europe has been piqued.
Arsenal are now said to be monitoring the Under-19 international and, while it’s unclear whether contact has been made over a potential bid, Sport Bild claim that the Gunners are “hot” for his services.
Most Arsenal fans would prefer Arsene Wenger to be bringing in experienced defenders at this point in time, but there’s no doubt that Baumgartl would be a worthwhile addition, given what he’s showed during his short top-flight career so far.
Wenger’s lack of movement in the transfer market might irritate supporters at times, but the Frenchman is more than clued up when it comes to recognising up-and-coming talent, and it looks like he might just have found his next target.
