Lewis Cook is arguably the most remarkable player in the Championship.
The burden of representing one of England’s biggest club’s consistently doesn’t seem to bother him and he’s showing remarkable maturity beyond his 17-years.
Cook could have understandably been intimidated by the prospect of playing against Championship high flyers Bournemouth last night, but instead he produced a performance which explains why the Daily Star has linked Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool with moves for him.
He has plenty of qualities, which mean he can stay effective in the middle of the current Leeds team while dealing with a lot of pressure.
He protects the ball effectively, he passes sensibly and he’s not afraid to put in a challenge against opponents who are older and more physically imposing than he is.
He’s made 21 starts so far this season, which shows how reliable he has become for the club despite having played under three different managers already this season.
The challenge for him is going to be how he reinvents himself and how he stays effective once teams find systems and sets of tactics, which work in terms of keeping him quiet and out of important games.
If he can check that box then he can continue to grow as a midfielder and his stock will only rise because he’ll be consistent over a long period of time.
The challenge for the club is how they fend off the interest from outside parties who could tempt Leeds’ current board with some lucrative financial offers, which would be difficult for the club to resist.
For now it’s a case of getting his head down and continuing to work hard as his club look to climb the table towards the middle of the Championship.
Here’s what Leeds fans on Twitter made of his performance last night.
