Giroud hails Arsenal's ‘amazing’ Gedion Zelalem but identifies his area of weakness

Olivier Giroud has had his say on a young Arsenal teammate with a big reputation.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been speaking about his young Gunners teammate Gedion Zelalem in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

The 17-year-old German-born player is highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium and he was given a run-out in the Champions League clash against Galatasaray earlier this season.

That was his second senior appearance for the club and it is unlikely to be long before he gets more opportunities to impress.

In the interview with SI.com, French international Giroud said of Zelalem, “I think he can put more aggressiveness in his game.

“I know he’s not a strong fellow, but he’s a fantastic footballer. Technically, he’s amazing, and he sees everything before the other players.

“He needs to play more, but he has fantastic quality.”

Zelalem has recently been granted American citizenship and he is set to play for the USA national team in the future.

He also looks to have a very bright future in North London, even if he does have a considerable amount of talent to overcome if he wishes to earn a regular starting spot.

That is something very much for the future, with Wenger sure to use him smartly rather than regularly, ensuring he learns his game before potentially becoming an integral part of Arsenal’s next generation.

As Giroud himself said, Arsenal have an amazing young player on their books, but he is far from the finished article.
