Former Arsenal target Josip Drmic struggling at Bayer Leverkusen

The Switzerland international has only started one Bundesliga game this season after his summer move from Nurnberg.

Arsenal’s search for a striker in the summer saw the North London side conclude a deal to bring Danny Welbeck to the club from Manchester United.

However, before Arsene Wenger swooped to sign the England international, the Gunners were being heavily linked with Josip Drmic.

The Swiss forward was coming off the back of an excellent season for Nurnberg, scoring 17 Bundesliga goals, with The Mirror claiming back in April that the North Londoners were eyeing up a move for the 22-year-old.

Drmic ended up signing for fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and was being tipped to star at the BayArena this season.

However, due to the presence of the likes of Stefan Kiessling and Son Heung-Min, Drmic has only started one Bundesliga game this season and has had to make do with a place on the club’s bench.

Drmic has only played a total of 281 minutes this season and has been introduced from the bench 11 times by the German club.

As the Swiss forward struggles to make an impression at his new club, Arsenal fans will surely be glad that their side opted for other targets ahead of this season.
