Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen and Arsenal duo recognised for weekend heroics

Manchester United, Burnley, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Southampton stars feature in the EA Sports PPI Team of the Week.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has been included in the EA Sports PPI Team of the Week.

The Belgium international centre-back was a key figure for Spurs in their 2-1 victory over Sunderland at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.

Vertonghen is one of the best defenders in the English top flight, and he proved that once again with an accomplished display against the Black Cats.

The 27-year-old former Ajax star had one shot, 95% pass accuracy, won 50% of the tackles and 67% of the aerial duels, and made two interceptions, seven clearances and one block.

Christian Eriksen was also influential in Tottenham’s win against Sunderland, but the Denmark international playmaker does not find himself in the team.

Besides scoring the wining goal in the 88th minute, the 22-year-old had six shots, a pass accuracy of 83%, created six chances, put in 11 crosses, and attempted two take-ons.

Arsenal duo Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla have also been included for his roles in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, Chelsea trio Branislav Ivanovic, Oscar and Diego Costa, Crystal Palace duo Jason Puncheon and Dwight Gayle, Southampton winger Eljero Elia, and Burnley defender Ben Mee all find themselves in the prestigious Team of the Week.

Here is the EA Sports PPI Team of the Week:
