David de Gea was voted Man of the Match by supporters on Facebook after Manchester United beat Harry Redknapp’s Queens Park Rangers side 2-0 to move within seven points of local rivals Manchester City.
The 24-year-old earned 51% of the vote, beating competition from Marouane Fellaini (36%) and James Wilson (13%), to earn the accolade in a game where shots were readily fired at goal.
In the first half, despite United dominating possession for large periods, it was the Hoops that were able to have more efforts at goal. Charlie Austin tested De Gea twice, but the Spaniard rose to the challenge in order to frustrate the in-form attacker.
In the second half, the Red Devils looked much more like themselves and broke the deadlock around the hour mark, thanks to a powerful effort from Belgium international Fellaini.
Rangers tried to get a foothold back in the game in order to get a point, however, a late counter attack ended with promising attacker Wilson putting the ball in the back of the net for United's second.
The victory for United ensures they are in a good position heading into the final stages of the season as they up the pressure on second placed Manchester City after their loss at home to Arsenal on the Sunday.
