Newcastle could be set to launch another attempt to bring Hamburg's Pierre-Michel Lasogga to the North East this month, if reports are to be believed.
Lasogga, 23, was a target for Newcastle in the summer, according to Sky Sports, but the German front man instead joined Hamburg from Hertha Berlin following a successful season-long loan at the Imtech Arena.
The former Under-21 international has since struggled with a thigh problem which has affected his performance, and his record of just two goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances has left the club underwhelmed with their £7 million investment.
Nevertheless, having struck 13 times in 18 league starts last season to earn a call-up the senior national team, Newcastle smell a potential bargain and are understood to be considering a potential swoop for his signature in the coming weeks.
No proposal has been made at this stage but, with Hamburg in Dubai at present on their winter break, where Newcastle have also travelled to this week for some warm-weather training, perhaps there could be a chance to begin initial talks?
Regardless, the Toon no doubt need help up top for the second half of the season, but whether their current management issues will put potential targets off a switch to St James’ Park this month remains to be seen.
