Liverpool and Manchester United are set to compete for the signature of Cerro Porteno’s teenage sensation Sergio Diaz, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com.
Aged just 16, the Paraguayan forward has earned numerous comparisons to Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero due to his diminutive stature and finishing instincts, establishing himself in the club’s first-team in recent months to net an impressive eight goals in 23 total appearances.
Competing at the South American Under-20 Championship at present, the promising attacker scored in his side’s 4-2 opening win over Bolivia and, while he was rested for the subsequent game against Argentina, his performance gave scouts more than enough to work off.
Both Liverpool and United are now said to have made initial contacts with Cerro over a move for Diaz, with an asking price of just over £5 million quoted.
Given both his age and work permit issues, an imminent move to England is doubtful, but the fact that two major Premier League sides are said to be so desperate to secure his services at this point goes some length towards highlighting his enormous potential.
