Why Newcastle's season will be defined by their next three matches

Newcastle United take on Hull City, Stoke City and Crystal Palace in the coming weeks.

Newcastle United's next three games could define whether they get sucked into a relegation fight or not this season.

The Magpies had looked well clear of danger, but a poor run of form since Alan Pardew's departure has left question marks being raised again.

And, with a tough run of fixtures coming up, Newcastle must ensure that they pick up a healthy number of points from their next three games to avoid being dragged into the relegation mire.

The North East outfit are currently eight points above the drop zone, but their failure to pick up a win in any of their previous three outings has set alarm bells ringing.

Newcastle now face a run of games which look very winnable, but the pressure will be on.

The Magpies take on Hull City, Stoke City and Crystal Palace in the coming few weeks and if they are unable to collect a significant number of points they could find themselves in trouble because of the matches that follow.

Newcastle's run to through February to the middle of April looks hugely challenging with games against Manchester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, which will provide a stern test.

It really does heighten the importance of Newcastle appointing a new manager this week, so that the players can start concentrating on matters on the pitch, with no distractions from elsewhere, ahead of three matches which are of the utmost importance.
