The Argentine superstar caused quite a stir at the Ballon d’Or gala last week, quoted as saying by the Independent: “I don’t know where I will be next season.”
The idea of Messi leaving Barcelona seems fanciful given his current ties to the club and the simple fact his price tag would be astronomical.
There aren’t many clubs with the sort of money that his signature would command, and new FFP regulations would prevent those who do making a move.
Still, after Messi decided to follow the Blues, Courtois and Filipe Luis on Instagram, questions were asked by the press including renowned Spanish paper Marca.
Courtois, however, has laughed off the so-called Messi media frenzy and told reporters that a deal to bring Messi to West London would require absurd and unrealistic changes.
"I do not know why this has caused such a stir! He has not even said he wanted to leave Barcelona. With social networking today, people become crazy,” Courtois was quoted as saying by Le10sport.
“Besides, I do not think Chelsea can buy Messi, except if we sell half our team (laughs).”
Messi has been in stunning form at the Nou Camp this season, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further eight in 18 La Liga starts.
