Stuart Pearce on what he told Nottingham Forest players before Championship clash v Derby County

Stuart Pearce is delighted with Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 comeback win against Derby County away from home in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce has revealed to the club’s official website what he told the players prior to the match against Derby County.

Forest returned to winning ways on Saturday when they got the better of their East Midlands rivals Derby away from home in the Championship.

The Nottingham-based outfit headed into the match at the iPro Stadium on a four-game losing run. Not many football followers would have expected them to win at the home of Championship high-flyers Derby, but Forest did just that.

Despite going behind early in the first half, Pearce’s side launched a stirring comeback in the second period to clinch the game 2-1, Ben Osborn with the winner in injury time.

After the match, Pearce revealed what he told the players in the team hotel before the clash against Derby.

“I asked the players at the hotel to put a marker down that our supporters will be proud of, and I think they did that,” the 52-year-old told Forest’s official website.

“It’s a great result for us in this part of the world against a very good Derby side who are going to be very close to promotion this year.

“We’ve set the bar for ourselves and it’s important we use this as a building block. We have to make sure we’re ready for Wednesday night and back this result up.”

Pearce’s comments to his Forest players did have a positive effort, and the fans will now hope that the team build on the win against Derby.

Forest started the 2014-15 campaign as one of the candidates to finish in the top six, but results since December have been disappointing.

The Nottingham-based outfit currently find themselves 12th in the Championship table with 34 points, 10 points behind sixth-placed Watford.

It will not be easy for Forest to reduce the deficit and claw their way back up the table, but they certainly have the confidence and the players to do so.
