According to the Daily Mail, Celtic will look to challenge Valencia to the signature of influential Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
The report states that Celtic have joined Valencia and a number of Premier League clubs in the battle for the 30-year-old defensive midfielder, who is said to be making a decision within the next two weeks.
Fletcher, who has been at the club since he was 11 years old, is recognised as a key figure in the United dressing room but knows, due to the influx of midfielders in the past two years, he stands little chance of keeping a regular spot in Louis van Gaal’s side.
This season, he has been used primarily off the bench, with seven of his 11 appearances coming as a substitute in the last half hour of the game. Although, more recently, the Scottish international’s time on the pitch has become even more limited.
Since the start of November, Fletcher has played just 97 minutes of Premier League football and hasn’t featured at all in the league since the start of 2015. However, he did play the full 90 minutes in the FA Cup against Yeovil Town where he got an assist.
Now, considering the interest, it looks like his 19-year spell at Old Trafford could come to an end and Celtic may hope to beat the illustrious competition for his signature.
