Leeds defender Scott Wootton has praised striker Steve Morison, speaking to the club's official site.

The 23-year-old picked out the Welshman's performance, commenting that the club based their tactics around his ability to hold the ball up.

"I thought we deserved to get three points. We created a lot of chances, we put a lot of balls in the box.

"We had a gameplan from the manager to get the ball forward and play off Steve Morison, which I thought he did really well."

The tactics involved plenty of long balls, Leeds attempted the third-highest number against Birmingham of any game they have played this season, and the most of any home fixture.

Leeds Forest vs Leeds 92

Leeds drew the game 1-1, with Morison hitting the post as he still searches for his first goal of the season, in 424 minutes of Championship football played so far.

Morison worked hard to hold the ball up, providing six lay-offs, the most of any Leeds forward this season, and his three accurate flick-ons was also a high. This was behind the departed Matt Smith who managed four in half an hour against Millwall early in the season.

The approach is a shift in style from earlier games under Neil Redfearn, but results had dried up with the diamond formation in midfield, and a more direct philosophy has at least seen Leeds put points on the board.

Whether this is a way Leeds can progress and ultimately one day win promotion is uncertain, but with the intention to help them survive, it is helping them get points on the board.
