Robbie Fowler has told Sky Sports that Mario Balotelli still has plenty to offer Liverpool.
The Italian striker has struggled since returning to English football last summer from AC Milan.
Balotelli helped Manchester City to title glory during a previous stint in the Premier league, but is yet to open his top-flight goal account this time around.
He is, however, a player with an enviable CV and plenty of Champions League and international experience.
Fowler is convinced that his potential can be unlocked, but an Anfield legend acknowledges that the 24-year-old needs to learn how to handle the expectation being placed on his shoulders.
Fowler told Sky Sports News HQ: “He’s not had the greatest of starts, but he’s obviously a very talented player. If you look at the clubs he has played for – City, both Milan sides, Liverpool – obviously there is something there. We haven’t really seen it yet, if we are being honest, but I think that eventually he will get it right.
“The pressures of playing for Liverpool are a lot higher than people think. Maybe Mario is struggling to handle that pressure. He is a talented player and hopefully he will get it right.”
Balotelli has made 12 Premier League appearances for Liverpool without finding the target.
He has fallen out of favour as a result, with Brendan Rodgers currently favouring other striking options.
Fowler is, however, right to suggest that keeping him on board may be the best option, with there no questioning his match-altering ability when on top of his game.
