Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ezequiel Munoz will leave Palermo this month, according to Tuttomercato.web.com.
Munoz, 24, is out of contract in the summer, and past reports from the Italian football website have listed the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham and West Ham United among the clubs interested in his signature.
The Argentine centre-back has proven one of Palermo’s top performers since arriving from Boca Juniors in August 2010, and management have been working hard behind the scenes to get him tied down to a new deal.
However, with the latest talks breaking down, it’s now believed that the Serie A outfit will look to offload their star defender in the coming weeks rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Spurs have been considered among the front-runners to land the former Under-20 international since the start of the month, but Tuttomercatoweb.com have added that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now face fierce competition from fellow chasers Napoli, Roma and Spartak Moscow.
Munoz has made 14 total appearances for Palermo this season after missing five games earlier in the campaign with a hamstring issue, and has helped his side up to 10th place in the table with his reliable defensive shifts.
He was dropped for the weekend’s 1-1 home draw with Roma over his contract situation, however, and it remains to be seen whether he will make another appearance in the club’s famous pink strip.
Also comfortable at right-back, the former Boca product holds a Spanish passport to negate the need for a work permit, and the chance to link up with compatriot Pochettino at White Hart Lane would no doubt be an enticing proposition.
