With Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi missing large portions of the season through injury, the 21-year-old has been vital for Fiorentina’s fight in Serie A this term, and has provided five goals in 13 league appearances.
His goalscoring form has also piqued the interest of Liverpool, as per the earlier Calciomercato report, but a new story has come to light suggesting that the Viola will do all they can to keep him in Italy for as long as possible.
TMW have indicated that Fiorentina have already opened contract talks with Babacar, and are intending to close the deal as soon as possible to extend his deal past the 2016 expiration date currently signed. The report also outlines that Gomez could be the player on his way out of the Stadio Artemio Franchi this month, as Vincenzo Montella looks to assure Babacar of consistent playing time.
The news that a deal is already on the table for Babacar to tie his future down to the Viola will do much to hurt Liverpool and Spurs’ chances of signing the forward, and the Premier League duo may now be forced to look elsewhere as they attempt to strengthen in the striking department this month.
