Arsenal have confirmed that young Swedish defender Kristopher Da Graca has signed a professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old centre-back was photographed putting pen to paper in a picture later posted on the club’s official Twitter account.
Da Graca plays predominantly as a centre-half although he can occupy a defensive midfield position if required.
This season he was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s UEFA Youth League match against Galatasaray while he has also made two appearances for Sweden’s under-16 side, scoring one goal to date.
While many Arsenal fans are waiting for news of some additions to the senior side, the latest announcement is another indication that the Gunners are keen to tie the best young talent to the club for the long term.
Manager Arsene Wenger has shown in recent times that he is prepared to give young players a chance, with the likes of Stefan O’Connor, Gedion Zelalem and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all featuring for the first-team, and you can be sure Da Graca has aspirations to do the same.
