Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has been singing the praises of Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla on social networking site Twitter.
Spain international Cazorla has been in superb form in recent weeks, and he was once again stunning against Manchester City on Sunday.
The former Villarreal and Malaga attacker was the best player on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium as Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners against City in the Premier League.
Besides scoring the opening goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, Cazorla had a pass accuracy of 91%, put in four cross, attempted 14 take-ons, won 33% of the tackles, and made three interceptions and five clearances.
It was a truly majestic performance from the 30-year-old, leading Lineker to shower him with praise on Twitter.
This is the best I've seen Arsenal play in yonks. Disciplined, canny, energetic, explosive and combative.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) January 18, 2015
Santi Cazorla strikes me as the kind of bloke whose personality would be as likeable as his game. Terrific footballer.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) January 18, 2015
Arsenal’s performance against City was arguably their best of the season when one considers the strength of the opposition they were facing.
Cazorla has stepped up his game in recent weeks and has compensated for the loss of Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil due to injury.
In 21 Premier League appearances so far this season, the Spaniard has scored five goals and created 49 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 88% and a shot accuracy of 56%.
Arsenal are very much in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, and if results go their way, then they could well end the campaign in third place.
