It has been suggested by the likes of the Daily Star that the Uruguay international is a January transfer target for Queens Park Rangers.
Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his desire to bring attacking talent into Loftus Road during the winter window.
Rodriguez has struggled for playing time this season, with fierce competition for places in the Spanish capital working against him.
Simeone, however, considers the 29-year-old to be an important part of his squad and has been impressed by his professionalism during a testing time.
He said in Marca: “I’m open to any situation which may occur in the market, but I can’t say anything about Cristian because nothing’s been said officially. He’s a player we’d like to keep and who’s always behaved properly. He’s a great professional.”
Rodriguez has spent the last two-and-a-half years with Atletico and has made close to 100 appearances for the club.
He is a winger that has never been prolific when it comes to weighing in with goals, but his hard running, trickery and work rate make him a useful asset.
A lack of competitive minutes this term will be a disappointment, but he deserves credit for not rocking the boat and trying to force through a switch elsewhere.
