Tottenham should forget Konoplyanka and opt for Yarmolenko instead

The North London club would be advised to make a move for the Dynamo Kiev star, who has been in sublime form in recent months.

The Daily Mail yesterday claimed that Tottenham are interested in Dnipro’s Yevhen Konoplyanka, with potential for the Ukraine international to move to North London this month.

Despite the fact that Konoplyanka is a talented attacker, if Spurs want to target a player who has progressed in the last year and has proven himself for club and country, Dynamo Kiev’s Andriy Yarmolenko surely offers a better option.

Before the mid-season break in the Ukrainian Premier League, Konoplyanka had hit four goals and offered up two assists for third-placed Dnipro.

However, Yarmolenko has played a significant role in firing an unbeaten Dynamo Kiev to the top of the table. He is the division’s joint top goalscorer with nine strikes and has also assisted five goals for team-mates.

Both players are the same age, 25, but the Kiev winger is also the undoubted star for his national side.

With 18 goals in 45 games for Ukraine, Yarmolenko netted a hat-trick back in November to ensure his side won 3-0 against Luxembourg in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Both players are versatile enough to play on either wing, but Yarmolenko seems the more impressive of the two.

Konoplyanka may well potentially be available more readily due to the fact that he is out of contract in the summer, but Spurs should tread carefully before dipping into the Ukrainian market again - they surely don’t want another Sergei Rebrov situation on their hands.
