Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has wished former teammate Jermain Defoe the best of luck at Sunderland on social networking site Twitter.

England international striker Defoe recently joined the Black Cats from Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 32-year-old is rated very highly by Premier League followers and his return to English football has been welcomed by many.

Defoe’s first game for Sunderland was against his former club Tottenham on Saturday, and it ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Black Cats.

The former West Ham United star started the Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane and played for 75 minutes.

Although Defoe failed to score, he gave a good account of himself, taking one shot, having a pass accuracy of 100%, putting in one cross and attempting one take-on.

Walker, who played the entire 90 minutes, has wished his English compatriot the best of luck at Sunderland, while also singing the praises of teammate Christian Eriksen, who scored the winning goal in the 88th minute.

Sunderland are struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment, while Tottenham foster top-four ambitions.
