Southampton players react to 2-1 win over Newcastle; featuring Elia and more

Southampton Huddle

Southampton defeated Newcastle United on Saturday but what did some of their players think of the performance?

Southampton slipped to fourth place after Manchester United beat QPR, but the Saints bounced straight back up to third just hours later after beating Newcastle United.

New signing Eljero Elia opened the scoring with a low shot beneath Tim Krul, but Southampton were pegged back with a comical goal, as a Florin Gardos clearance cannoned off Newcastle's Yoann Gouffran and into the net.

However, Ronald Koeman's Southampton did find the winner, and it was Elia again, this time driving the ball in off the post with the aid of a slight deflection.

It was Southampton's 13th win of the season in a remarkable campaign, and players took to Twitter after the game to celebrate yet another victory.

Established stars such as James Ward-Prowse, Shane Long and Graziano Pelle were full of praise for goalscoring hero Elia, whilst even youngsters like Jason McCarthy and Jake Hesketh moved to laud the Dutchman.

Nathaniel Clyne and Harrison Reed also reacted on Twitter, and below you can read all of the Southampton players' tweets after their latest win.
