The French left-back was in at left-back against Southampton yesterday.
Yesterday saw Southampton continue their excellent form with a victory against Newcastle United at St James Park.
Newcastle United's defeat means they have not won under caretaker boss John Carver. With Alan Pardew winning his first three games for new team Crystal Palace, the former gaffer's team are now just four points behind Newcasle, and one place behind them in the league.
In the end it was sloppy defending that cost Newcastle against the high-flying Saints. Eljero Elia bagged a brace. The first goal sneaked under the body of Tim Krul, who was either slow to get down or should have used his foot to save the strike from his Dutch countryman. The next goal came from a dodgy attempt at a clearance, and a defelcted half volley from Elia.
All in all, Newcastle were uninspiring - with Fabricio Coloccini in particular struggling.
However one player who seemed to get plenty of praise on Twitter was French defender Massadio Haidara. He started his first Premier League game at left-back since the 2nd December fixture against Burnley.
Carver through him in yesterday and he impressed. He was certainly better going forward, as is well known about his talents.
He also did a very good job on Dusan Tadic. He was close to the Serbian talent for most of the game, even making a pantomime villain of the playmaker.
At times defensively he switches off. Yoann Gouffran did well to cover him on occasions but it was certainly clear that Newcastle fans were happier to see him in action at left-back rather than Paul Dummett, who has impressed at centre-half.
Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter...
Ref awful. Commentary worse. Performance not far off. Fair to say I didn't enjoy that. Haidara probably only one who played well for 90mins.— Keith (@nufckeithr) January 17, 2015
Haidara played very well too, I thought. Defending generally good, but two awful mistakes cost us. Real shame, we played ok. #NUFC— Chocolat Bear (@chocolatbear44) January 17, 2015
#nufc Thought Anita and Haidara played well, Colo & Gouffran terrible. Ayoze is talented but needs a strike partner. Cabella improving.— Rolo (@rolanddt16) January 18, 2015
Gouffran Haidara actually played quite well in the 1st half. #nufc Cabella showing his skills, Ayoze only needs more chance in front of goal— Mikha Angelo (@Angelo_Mikha) January 17, 2015
#nufc whoever becomes head coach should take Haidara aside tell him Ur in my team. if u play this way. Pardew never gav him dat chance— bobby martins (@bobbyonwestside) January 18, 2015
Massadio Haïdara showed yesterday why he should be our starting LB. Dummett as a CB instead of LB. Brilliant performance from Haïdara. #NUFC— Mark Ooi (@MarkOoiZW) January 18, 2015
Well Newcastle did not deserve a loss! Haidara looked good though...— Aidan Coomber (@Tanjo) January 17, 2015
Haidara was our best player, Sammy looked good too when he came on but thought Sissoko was poor #nufc— Ross Lindsay (@RossLindsay20) January 17, 2015
Haidara is having a good game...— INCH (@tha_inch) January 17, 2015
Haidara has had a good game though— Luke Robinson (@LukeRobbo10) January 17, 2015
@NUFC_Stats Haidara questionable as well but for a few good forward runs. Whole team looks unprepared. Really need a proper manager ASAP— Toon Army Canada (@NUFC_Canada) January 17, 2015
