The 29-year-old underwhelmed City fans for the second week running against the Gunners.
Fast forward, however, and nothing has changed.
City fans were left wanting more by their side as a whole after Arsenal shocked the Premier League with a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium. But, once again, it was winger Navas that drew the most criticism from Manchester City supporters on Twitter after the game.
Naturally, Navas's name was the subject of plenty of puns, while one fan asked whether boss Manuel Pellegrini literally does see the 29-year-old as the son of God.
More jokes on social media involved Navas being unable to cross a road, a bridge or any other geographical entity, as champions Manchester City fell back to five points behind league-leaders Chelsea.
Arsenal, for their part, were immense as they won by two goals in completely anti-Arsene Wenger fashion. A penalty and a set-piece secured the three points for the Gunners, who were disciplined, organised and very effective against Pellegrini's men.
But Arsenal were certainly helped by a lack of firepower up front from Manchester City. Chiefly through Navas's inability to find a man with his final ball, an occurrence that happened time after time.
Here's some of the best Manchester City fan reaction to the Spaniard's display against Wenger's Arsenal side...
Jesus Christ: Suffered on the cross. Jesus Navas: Makes City fans suffer when he crosses... #mcfc— Ben Murray (@rubym83) January 18, 2015
Navas frustrating today, worked his nuts off but final ball/cross awful. Only stayed on to mark Sanchez! #mcfc— Ian (@1an3) January 18, 2015
