Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert has high praise for team-mate Fabio Borini

The goal-shy pair have struggled for goals this season.

Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-0 yesterday and the goals came from two strikers who have struggled to find the net this season for the club. One of the goalscoring pair has now congratulated the other in quotes on Liverpool's official website.

Rickie Lambert bagged Liverpool's second goal of the game yesterday, but the first came courtesy of Fabio Borini and Lambert praised the performance of the Italian:

"I was pleased for Fabio. It was a great goal. He's done well. He was superb against Sunderland and he's done well today.

"He's played the role brilliantly and he's got his goal. It was a great ball by Hendo, and we deserved to go at least 1-0 up. It was a great performance from every player."

Of course Lambert and Borini both arrived at Liverpool this summer. Lambert was signed from Southampton whilst Borini returned from a successful season long loan at Premier League side Sunderland.

But while Mario Balotelli has struggled for goals, the summer signing still awaiting his first Premier League goal, Lambert and Borini have also struggled.

This was Lambert's third goal for the club, his first at Anfield, and hopefully the first of many more. For Borini it was his first of the season and his first for Liverpool since he scored in a 6-0 win at Newcastle United back in April 2013.
