Celtic boss confirms interest in Tal Ben Haim

Ronny Deila says the international is one of a number of transfer targets being assessed.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has confirmed his interest in international winger Tal Ben Haim, according to STV.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv and Israel star - not to be confused with Charlton Athletic defender Tal Ben Haim - is reportedly on the Bhoys' radar.

And Deila has now been quoted as telling reporters by STV that the winger is one of a number of targets the SPL champions are discussing - although he has warned that a potential deal is nowhere near in place.

"He is one of many names we are talking about but there is a long way from there to a signing," the Celtic boss said after the 2-0 win over Hamilton Academical on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Haim is said by STV to have a release clause of £2 million, although Celtic would appear unwilling to pay that in January if other transfer stories are anything to go by.

Indeed, reports suggest Celtic want to bring Shaun Maloney back to the club but are refusing to pay Wigan's £1 million valuation for the 31-year-old.

Meanwhile, Celtic have also announced the signing of Gary Mackay-Steven - again, another winger - but only a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer.

The Bhoys resumed their SPL campaign after the winter break yesterday, with goals from Adam Matthews, who produced a stunning strike, and Liam Henderson seeing Hamilton off.
